Pros

  • Very unique control scheme where you control each limb separately.
  • Watching your floppy character move is hilarious.
  • Your character doesn't die and there are several worlds to explore.

Cons

  • The game can become repetitive as you keep solving similar puzzles.
  • The controls are funny at first, but can become tedious after some time.

Human: Fall Flat is a platformer and puzzle game with challenging but fun controls. Unlike most games where you play a character who is upright is easy to control, your character here is floppy and moves like they're made of dough. This will lead to hours of laughing along with unique gameplay you won't get from other platformers.

Character and Movement

Nearly every platformer gives you a defined character with precise movements. While those games are good, Human: Fall Flat breaks the mold. Your character looks vaguely humanoid and like they're made of dough. Your character flops and stumbles around, which makes the gameplay much harder than it should be. At the same time, it will be hard to not bust out laughing at how the character moves.

Usually you push forward to make your whole character move forward. This game forces you to control each limb separately. There is a dedicated button for both legs and both arms. This forces your character into some awkward positions that will be hilarious. Your character will usually grab walls, objects and ledges automatically if they are within distance. This makes the game a little easier.

Objectives

Moving is tough enough, but this games ramps up the challenge. You are expected to solve puzzles while traversing the complicated platformer landscape. The game itself wouldn't be too hard if the controls were standard, but the unique control scheme makes this game difficult.

Nearly every level requires trial and error. You'll try desperately to make it to the finish or complete a puzzle in time before you lose or get in an awkward spot that you can't escape. Your character can't die, but sometimes you'll need to restart because of your positioning.

Repetitive Gameplay

The first few levels will probably be the most entertaining as you laugh over the weird movements and strange positions your character gets in. After these few levels you'll begin to notice that the gameplay becomes repetitive. You have to solve similar puzzles in similar platformer environments. It's also around this time that the funny movements just become tedious as you try to beat the levels.

Due to this, Human: Fall Flat is best played in shifts so that you don't get too annoyed.

Lots of Falling

As the title suggests, this game features a lot of falling. Your character will fall off cliffs, platforms, buildings and more. This isn't just because of the hard controls. Sometimes the best way to navigate is by falling large distances. This is also how you get from one level to the next.

While the falling might sometimes get annoying if the controls aren't working for you, it's also funny to see your floppy character flail around inhumanly as they fall for several seconds.

Relatively Few Maps

The game only features a few different maps to explore. This might be a problem for some while others will feel that Human: Fall Flat doesn't wear out its welcome. Each map is creative, has many challenges and will give you fun puzzles to solve. If you were looking for a massive game with lots of levels, then this isn't right for you. if you wanted a unique game that condenses everything into a few levels, then you might like Human: Fall Flat.
